A Castlerea councillor has highlighted how any interference with lifebuoys could pose a risk to life.

Fine Gael councillor Gareth Scahill, in a social media message, said it had been brought to his attention that one of the lifebuoys in the Demesne, Castlerea had been removed from its housing recently.

The River Suck runs through the Demesne.

Pointing out the importance of this lifesaving equipment, Cllr Scahill said that as a former lifeguard, he knew how timely action could make a difference to someone who gets into difficulty in water.

He thanked local people who located and returned the buoy to its housing.

“Please respect this and all lifesaving equipment throughout our communities,” he said.
