Local disability charity refused permission again to build jetty

Lough Ree Access for All CLG, a not-for-profit community organisation aimed at making the River Shannon more accessible to people with disabilities, has been turned down a second time by Roscommon County Council to develop jetty facilities.
The charity was seeking permission to construct a floating jetty together with an associated jetty ramp and footpath at Ballyleague-Lanesborough.
However, citing concerns about the potential impact on the natural environment and local wildlife, the council again refused planning permission, having rejected a similar development proposal from the community group last year.
In its decision to refuse this time, the local authority repeated its assertion that it “cannot be concluded that this development would not unduly impact upon the receiving natural environment and its associated flora and fauna”.
