Local GAA club suspends all activities following death of boy in train crash

Ballyhaunis GAA Club has announced the suspension of all club activities until further notice following the death of a 12-year-old local boy in a collision involving a train and a car near the town on Thursday evening.
It’s understood that the boy’s family has deep ties with the club.
It’s believed that the boy and his father were travelling home in the car from GAA training when it was struck by a train at a level crossing in Kiltybo near Ballyhaunis just after 8.45 p.m..
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and his father was brought to hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
In a social media message, Ballyhaunis GAA Club said it was suspending all activities for the moment following the tragedy.
“All club activities, training sessions and matches are suspended until further notice as our members and wider community come to terms with the tragic loss of life last night.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted during this incredibly difficult time.
“The club will make an official statement and details on supports for our club members shortly,” it said.
