Local Senator calls on Housing Minister to urgently publish Storm Éowyn review

Local Fine Gael Senator Gareth Scahill has called on Housing Minister James Browne to urgently publish the response to Storm Éowyn review.
Eight months after the destructive January storm, the review has still not been completed.
“We needed to have learnt our lessons from Storm Éowyn to make sure we are resilient enough for the next season of storms. If it’s not published, how we are meant to learn these lessons?,” said Senator Scahill.
He pointed out that a lot of power and broadband lines have been left hanging all across Roscommon and the West of Ireland since that storm.
“These lines are stable but all it’s going to take is another branch or tree to come down very close and it will finish the job off. This was a patch up job rather than a permanent job,” he said.
Earlier this week, the Climate Change Advisory Council (CCAC) criticised the delay in publishing the Storm Éowyn review.
The CCAC expressed disappointment that it was overdue and said preparations were needed urgently before another storm of that magnitude hits Ireland.
Earlier last month, Minister for Housing James Browne said it was anticipated that the review findings would be available “shortly”.
