There are major traffic delays on the Westmeath/Roscommon border around Athlone this evening.
The understands that traffic is backed up on the M6/N6 westbound for miles, as are slip roads trying to access the dual carriageway.
There are reportedly roadworks in the area, although traffic has been at a standstill for the last hour.
