Man warned he faces jail

A 47-year-old man who drove without insurance has been warned that he faces jail if he offends again.

Marian Peci Sr, with an address at 1 Castleview, Castle Street, Roscommon, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance on May 5th, 2025, at Lanesborough Street. The court heard that the gardaí were called to a minor collision in which the accused was involved.

Solicitor Sean Mahon said that his client was insured on another vehicle and that he had made attempts to transfer it to the vehicle he was driving.

“He thought he had done it,” Mr Mahon said, and he asked for leniency.

Judge Vincent Deane accepted what Mr Mahon said but added that the accident was an aggravating factor.

He disqualified him from driving for six years. He also handed down a six month suspended sentence, making not driving a condition of the sentence.

“He’s going straight to jail if he’s caught behind the wheel of a car,” the judge said.
