Plans unveiled to upgrade bus stop facilities in county town

Plans have been unveiled by Roscommon County Council to upgrade bus stop facilities at Abbeytown in Roscommon Town.

Under the plans, site clearance works will first be carried out before the construction of a new hardstanding area and bus shelter on the western side of the N63. Bus cage road markings will also be installed to clearly identify the stopping area for buses.

On the eastern side of the road, a second hardstanding area will be developed, accompanied by additional bus cage markings. 

The scheme will also include supporting works such as road drainage improvements to ensure the infrastructure remains safe and functional in all weather conditions.

As part of the process, the council is inviting members of the public to have their say before a final decision is made by the chief executive.

Environmental and ecological screening assessments have already been completed for the project. These concluded that a full Environmental Impact Assessment Report is not required and that the development does not need to progress to a Stage 2 Appropriate Assessment.

However, anyone who believes the proposal could have significant environmental effects may apply to An Coimisiún Pleanála within four weeks of the publication of the notice for a screening determination.

Detailed plans and project documents are available for public inspection at Áras an Chontae in Roscommon Town and can also be viewed online through Roscommon County Council’s consultation portal.

The documents will remain available for four weeks.

Members of the public can make submissions or observations on the proposals up to November 5th.
