Cllr Marty McDermott is the new Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District.

The Fianna Fáil councillor was elected to the position at today’s annual general meeting of the authority, succeeding his party colleague Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice.

The new Leas Cathaoirleach is Fianna Fáil councillor Larry Brennan who takes over from Fine Gael councillor Ruth Conboy.

Addressing the meeting, the new Cathaoirleach referred to a number of projects he was passionate about, one of which is footpaths for the Golf Links Road in Roscommon Town. 

He is hoping for the works to commence on this project in the last quarter of the year.

Cllr McDermott was proposed for the position by Cllr Conboy and seconded by Cllr Fitzmaurice.
