New Roscommon senator makes maiden appearance in Seanad today

Roscommon’s newest senator will make his maiden appearance in the new Seanad as it sits for the first time later today.
Gareth Scahill, the former Fine Gael councillor from Castlerea, will take his place in Seanad Éireann alongside 59 other senators.
Senator Scahill is one of the Taoiseach’s eleven nominees to the Upper House, announced on Friday.
The 27th Seanad sits for the first time this afternoon, Wednesday, at 2.30 p.m..
The Roscommon senator has given a firm commitment to make the Roscommon-Galway constituency “a better place” and has also confirmed his intention to run in the next general election.
Senator Scahill said he is determined to use his presence in the Oireachtas as a national platform to highlight and address key concerns, considerations and issues on behalf of local communities in the constituency.
