A 58-year-old man, who threatened and swore at a couple over a parking issue, has paid €1,000 in compensation at a sitting of Roscommon District Court.

David Doyle, with an address at 2 Lus Leana, Castle Street, Roscommon Town, had pleaded guilty to threatening the couple on September 8th 2025 at Lus Leana, Castle Street.

The court also heard that the accused produced an article, a red nail bar, in the course of the dispute, which he used to strike a post during the incident.

At a sitting earlier this year mobile phone footage of the incident was played for the court. During the clip, the accused could be seen holding the nail bar and swearing at the couple.

“Park there, not f**king here,” he was heard to say in the footage.

Mr Doyle had 18 previous convictions at the time of the offence and was on a suspended sentence at the time.

The case again appeared before Judge James Faughnan last week while the Roscommon District Court was sitting in Castlerea.

A probation report and victim impact statements were before the court.

The accused’s solicitor Con Harlow said his client apologised unreservedly for the offence.

He said that Mr Doyle had taken measures to address his drinking and had undertaken an anger management course. At the time of the offence, the accused had also suffered a bereavement.

The judge remarked that this would be a triggering offence for the accused’s suspended sentence. He was informed that the probation report indicated that he was suitable for some community service.

“He’s looking at a custodial sentence if this isn’t dealt with,” Judge Faughnan said.

He adjourned the matter until September for it to be established what type of community service the accused could carry out. He also directed that the compensation be paid over.
