Planning go-ahead for new County Roscommon school building welcomed

The major school extension comprises twelve new classrooms.
St Attracta's National School in Ballaghaderreen has welcomed the planning go-ahead for a new school building comprising twelve new classrooms.
Roscommon County Council has granted planning permission for the development which also includes reconfiguration and extension of the car park, a bus drop-off, bicycle parking, street lighting, EV charging and associated site works.
The core elements of the multi-million euro project at the primary school on the Convent Road Town comprise ten mainstream classrooms and two ASD classes, a multi-purpose room and ancillary offices.
Welcoming the news, school principal Noel Loftus said: “The school authorities are delighted to receive the recent good news that planning permission is granted with some conditions.
“We look forward to the next stage as we move forward to the actual build. The school authorities and the design team would expect that the construction of the new build would start during the course of the new school year,” he said.
St Attracta's currently caters for almost 300 children, an increase of more than 25 per cent in the last five years.
The planning permission comes with twelve conditions attached.
