Planning granted for redevelopment of former Post Office in Boyle

Roscommon County Council had granted conditional planning permission for the redevelopment of the former Post Office in Boyle.

Planning permission had been sought by Aaron Sharkey for the alteration, refurbishment and change of use of the Post Office, which is a protected structure, to a hostel accommodation including eight bedrooms with associated communal facilities and ancillary takeaway coffee facility at the Shop Street premises.

The plans also include the demolition of an existing shed, and the conversion of existing outbuilding for use as ancillary storage to hostel (bicycle store, bin store & utility) and all associated site development, connections and ancillary works.

Roscommon County Council had sought further information in relation to the proposed change of use in early June.

The permission was granted today with 12 conditions attached.

The building was erected in 1910 and was used as a post office until its closure in early February when the service moved to Kelly’s SuperValu in the town.
