Plans for former Atlantic Mills factory in pipeline

The former Atlantic Mills factory in Tarmonbarry/Clondra is set to be purchased by a “new progressive company”, according to a local councillor.
Independent councillor Tom Crosby said that the sale of the plant to the company is "subject to contract by the appointed receivers".
Located just off the N5 outside Tarmonbarry village, Atlantic Mills employed more than 600 people at its peak. The factory served as a major employer across Roscommon, Longford and Leitrim producing denim cloth for companies like Levis and Wrangler across America and Europe.
Cllr Crosby said: “I’m pleased to confirm that the former Burlington Atlantic Mills factory, which sits on over 70 acres of former IDA development land in Tarmonbarry/Clondra, has been sold subject to contract by the appointed receivers to a new progressive company.
“While I can’t disclose the identity of the new owners or their plans at this stage, I believe this is very positive news for our area.
“My wife Pauline and I operated the restaurant in the factory where we employed six or seven full-time workers for many years before it closed in the late 1990s, so this site has great personal significance for us.
“As the local county councillor, I will do everything I can to support the new owners in developing the site and creating much-needed jobs for Tarmonbarry, Clondra and the much wider region. I’m hopeful this marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this landmark location,” he said.
