A man who pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis to the value of €50 was ordered at Ballaghaderreen District Court to make a donation to charity.

Jameel Sahaboola, 16 The Old Convent, Abbey Street, Ballyhaunis, was before the court for possessing cannabis on the old Dublin Road, Ballaghaderreen on September 13th last year.

The cannabis was discovered after a stop and search by gardaí.

The court heard that Sahaboola was training to become a healthcare assistant.

Representing the accused, Neasa O’Callaghan BL asked Judge Vincent Deane if the matter could be dealt with by way of a charitable donation.

Before striking out the case, Judge Deane ordered Sahaboola to make a €200 donation to the meals on wheels charity.
