Priest urges thieves to change their ways after oil is stolen from County Roscommon church
More than 500 litres of heating oil have been stolen from a church in County Roscommon.
More than 500 litres of heating oil have been stolen from a church in the county, prompting an appeal to those responsible to change their way of life.
The heating oil, worth hundreds of euro, was stolen from a tank at the back of the Sacred Heart Church in Kilglass last week.
Fr. Willibrord Sakwe, PP of Kilglass and Roosky, told the Roscommon Herald that he was saddened and disappointed by the theft, particularly as the church needed to be warm for parishioners.
“I don’t think the person or persons thought about the community. The church is for the whole community. By doing this they are depriving older people and people with medical conditions of heating,” he said.
“More than 500 litres are gone,” he added.
He asked that people respect churches and urged those responsible to change their way of life.
