Opposition to the council’s regeneration works in Ballaghaderreen is set to intensify with a public rally due to take place in the town square on Sunday afternoon.
Local businessman Michael Mulligan confirmed that a public rally is being organised as opposition to the public realm plan scales up.
Notification flyers on the rally, which takes place on Sunday at 3.30 p.m., are to be circulated throughout the town and surrounding areas.
Mr Mulligan said the business community was also considering participating in the local St. Patrick’s Day parade by carrying placards.
Up to forty members of the business community protested in the town centre this morning, Tuesday, for a second day.
They are fiercely opposing the plans, claiming up to 70 street parking spaces will be lost around the town.
Negative impact on trade, on the ability for shoppers to park conveniently, and on delivery and other vehicles trying to negotiate the new layouts are among the fears being expressed locally.
It's understood that members of the business community are due to meet council management in the town this afternoon.
