The reopening of Ballaghaderreen swimming pool is set to create up to 25 new jobs, the Roscommon Herald has learned.

The Herald also understands that the new operator of the pool is the company that runs Splash Swim Schools, which specialises in the provision of swimming lessons nationwide.

The Sligo firm’s staff of 50 people is set to increase to approximately 75 when the pool at the former Abbeyfield Hotel in Ballaghaderreen opens its doors again after being closed for more than two years.

The company, which is actively recruiting staff, is expected to make an announcement shortly on when the pool on the Sligo Road will re-open.

Along with swimming lessons for all age groups, the new operator of the pool is expected to provide a range of other services such as swim fit sessions and aqua aerobics. An accredited swim teacher training course will also be run at the pool from April 22nd-25th.

Established in 2015, Splash Swim Schools have overseen the development of more than 6,000 swimmers in this time and will celebrate 10 years in business this year.

The firm currently provides swimming lessons seven days a week in eight locations right across the country with Ballaghaderreen becoming its ninth venture.

News of the reopening of the pool on the Sligo Road will be widely welcomed locally.

Since the pool closed in December 2022, many people have had to travel considerable distances to avail of swimming facilities elsewhere.
