Roscommon concrete company purchased by Roadstone
Kildea Concrete was established in the early 1990s by the late Sonnie Kildea and his sons John and Larry.
S. Kildea & Sons Ltd (Kildea Concrete), a leading producer of ready-mix concrete, precast and concrete blocks in Athlone, Co Roscommon, has been purchased by Roadstone.
A spokesperson for Roadstone, a fully-owned subsidiary of CRH, confirmed that it had reached an agreement to acquire the South Roscommon firm, which trades as Kildea Concrete.
“The addition of Kildea Concrete further strengthens Roadstone’s ability to provide its customers with the essential materials to support the delivery of critical infrastructure across the Midlands,” said the spokesperson.
Established in the early 1990s by the late Sonnie Kildea and his sons John and Larry, Kildea Concrete started producing ready-mix concrete for the Midlands and East Connacht region.
Sonnie worked in the concrete industry since the mid-1960s and following his retirement in 2008, Larry assumed the role of company MD.
Since then, Kildea Concrete has expanded into concrete block manufacturing and produces a range of precast products, specialised concretes and Alfarock Retaining and Landscaping wall solutions.
The precast and Alfarock Retaining and Landscaping walls are supplied to the UK and Ireland markets.
Under Roadstone’s ownership, the business will continue to operate under the Kildea Concrete name and branding, serving customers in the Midlands and East Connacht region. The company employs more than thirty people at its base in Bealnamulla.
Speaking to the Roscommon Herald, Larry Kildea said: “We are immensely proud of the progress Kildea Concrete has made since its establishment by my father in the early 1990s.
"The sale to CRH/ Roadstone marks an exciting new chapter for the company and on behalf of John and myself, we wish the team every success as they continue to deliver the quality, high standards and service that customers have come to expect.”
