Roscommon County Council carried out over 930 inspections of rented property

Roscommon County Council carried out 938 inspections of private rented accommodation last year, nearly 100 more than in the previous year.

This included the evaluation of 604 dwellings, with 415 properties not meeting the regulatory requirements upon first inspection.

The council issued 615 improvement letters to landlords, however there were no improvement or prohibition notices served and no legal action was taken in any case in 2024.

In total the council has carried out 8,070 inspections since 2010.

Nationally 80,150 inspections were carried out by local authorities during 2024. This represents a 26% increase on the 63,500 inspections conducted in 2023.

Increased funding of €10.5m has been provided for 2025 to further ramp-up inspections.
