Members of the Victoria Walker Dance School competition team recently represented Ireland at the Dance World Cup finals in Burgos, Spain, held over eight days.

Eight ballet and jazz students from the school delivered stellar performances on the international stage, in front of world-famous dance and choreography judges, including the TV personality Abbey Lee Miller, and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour feature dancer Jan Ravnik. Both judges also hosted masterclasses at the event, in which the Victoria Walker dancers also participated.

This year, 120,000 young dancers from over 60 countries attempted to qualify for the world finals, with 8,500 dancers qualifying for the finals, to represent 51 countries. The competition is known for its diversity of dance styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and national dance, and is the biggest youth and child dance competition in the world, known as ‘the Olympics of dance’.

Pictured at the Dance World Cup Finals were Eleanor Harney (Boyle), Grace Kenefick (Boyle), Lexi Mullaney (Riverstown), Ruby McDonagh (Ballaghaderreen), Clara Cullinan (Ballaghaderreen), Aela Cassidy (Boyle), Pippa Supple (Boyle) and Maye Supple (Boyle).

Victoria Walker said: “I’m incredibly proud of the Victoria Walker Dance team. They were dedicated, hard-working and in turn had an amazing experience, and did Ireland proud. They danced with heart and showed the world that Ireland is becoming known as a hotbed for dance talent.

“Particular thanks to local businesses and the community who supported our fundraising efforts by sponsoring the team, attending our quizzes, bake sales and buying tickets for raffles. We really couldn’t have done it without you, and the team has had a once-in-a-lifetime experience they will never forget.”

The school returns in September with classes in Carrick-on-Shannon, Boyle and Ballinamore, with ballet, jazz, musical theatre, tap and many other classes, for children and adults of all ages.
