The lack of parking at Roscommon University Hospital was highlighted at a recent sitting of Roscommon District Court.

Appearing before Judge Deirdre Gearty, a nurse was being prosecuted for illegal parking on a footpath at the hospital on the morning of December 16th, 2024.

The nurse, who represented herself, said that on the date of the alleged offence, she had arrived early for work and there were no car parking spaces.

“We just can’t get parking,” she said. “We have this battle every day.” She said that she did not feel like she deserved to get penalised for going to work.

She added that there were no ‘No Parking’ signs at the area where she parked and the day before the court there were also cars parked there.

Judge Gearty said as the matter was being disputed, she put the case back for hearing until September 9th.
