A Roscommon teacher will be running a half-marathon tomorrow to raise money for equipment at his school.
Principal of Curraghboy NS Rory Leonard will be running the Mullingar Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, tomorrow as part of a campaign to fundraise for a sensory swing at his school.
He said the school has a soft play area but lacks the necessary funds to place a sensory swing within the playground.
“Any donation — no matter how small — will have a real impact,” he said. “To support this cause, I will be running two half marathons this year — one in Mullingar and one in Tullamore — to help raise funds for our school.
“We hope to purchase sensory swings for our pupils, but these are very expensive. As a small rural school, it can be difficult for us to raise the full amount ourselves. These swings would provide important sensory support and would make a real difference to many of our pupils’ daily school experiences.
“Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and will directly support the wellbeing and inclusion of children in our school community.”
