'Roscommon says No to IPAS' group welcomes Department's decision to rule out IPAS Centre for Roscommon Town

Academy House, Goff Street.
The 'Roscommon says No to IPAS' group has today welcomed the Department of Migration's decision to rule out a proposed IPAS Centre in Roscommon Town.
Following that decision, the group said it wished to make the following statement:
"We warmly welcome the decision by the Department of Migration to turn down the offer of Academy House as IPAS accommodation from the applicant.
"It cannot be understated how positive this decision is for the future of the town, and we hope it will truly be the end to that particular proposal.
"With regards to the future of the group, our mission statement, has always been to prevent the IPAS and any other future proposed IPAS centres in the town and surrounding areas. We believe that while this was the first attempt in the town, it won’t be the last, given the financial incentives and patterns we see nationwide.
"We have decided that public meeting will go ahead next Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Coachmans Inn as planned and we encourage anyone who is concerned about the potential for any future IPAS proposals to attend.
"It will be first and foremost an information evening but also a chance to properly introduce the committee to the public, tell them what we know and answer any questions they might have for us.
"We would also ask that if any member of the public has any information on other potential centres that they’d like to bring to our attention, to come along to the meeting or get in touch with the Facebook group - Roscommon says No to IPAS. For us, this is a marathon, not a sprint and we plan to persevere as a group for as long as we feel there is a need," concluded the statement.
