Roscommon woman crowned Best Dressed at The Curragh and reveals her bag was made from an old box

A Roscommon woman was this afternoon crowned Best Dressed at The Curragh’s final style competition of the year, sculpting her bag from a used Nature Valley box.
Designer Laura Hanlon from Fuerty picked up the top prize in the Grace & Glory competition, supported by The Grace, Westport Estate. She revealed on her own social media pages that “nothing is for the bin in my home”. Posting a picture of a Nature Valley box she said: “Can you guess what I made out of this? – I made this scalloped bag”.
The competition was a celebration of fearless individuality inspired by the bold spirit of Grace O’Malley.
The Curragh came alive with considered tailoring, natural textiles and statement jewels as racegoers embraced confidence, creativity and authentic Irish style. Judged by Mayo content creator Sarah Butler of Sarah Butler at Home and renowned stylist and broadcaster Marietta Doran, Grace & Glory invited participants to express their own unapologetic sense of style.
The style judges selected Laura for her red look that “perfectly captured the bold, fearless spirit” of Grace O’Malley.
Laura wore a three-piece ensemble from Phoenix V in Cork, shoes from Vinted and she made her statement headpiece and bag especially for the day.
Laura walked away with a stay at The Grace, Westport Estate - including two nights’ bed and breakfast in the Grace Kelly Suite, à la carte dining with champagne at Black Sheep, two signature spa treatments, and a half-day chauffeur-driven tour of Clew Bay and Achill Island.
