Sale of popular bar attracts international interest
Paddy’s Bar is a fully fitted traditional Irish pub.
Expressions of interest from international and national buyers have been expressed in Paddy’s Bar, Ballyhaunis.
On the market for just five weeks, an American party has already travelled to Ireland to inspect the premises.
One of the most recognisable landmark properties in Ballyhaunis, Paddy’s Bar is on the market with REA Semus Carthy, Roscommon.
The property comes with an adjoining five-bedroom townhouse, all situated in a prime high-profile trading location in the heart of the town.
“This exceptional mixed-use property presents a rare and exciting opportunity for owner occupiers, investors, or hospitality entrepreneurs seeking to acquire a long-established and highly regarded business premises with substantial residential accommodation,” said auctioneer Seamus Carthy.
“Paddy’s Bar is a fully fitted traditional Irish pub renowned for its warm and welcoming atmosphere and many years of successful trading.
“Rich in character and perfectly positioned within Ballyhaunis, the premises offers immediate trading potential for those wishing to continue its proud legacy,” added the auctioneer.

The auctioneer stated that it became obvious very quickly “that this is a good pub. It opens seven days a week from 10.30 a.m. and it is doing a good trade,” and as a result they have received numerous enquiries.
He said one person travelled from American last week to view the property, someone who had no direct connection to the area. He added that this was not unusual as more and more Americans are seeing Ireland as an ideal place to relocate.
He believes the party involved “is interested in keeping the property as is” which means that the pub would continue trading as before if the interested party is successful.
Guiding at a price of €300,000, there is presently a bid on the premises for €280,000 but offers are being finalised this week.
Commenting on recent statistics that show Roscommon has recorded the fourth-highest rate of pub closures in the country with 82 pubs in the county shutting their doors since 2005, Mr Carthy said that “it is a generational thing.” “The reality is that during the recession many people left for the US and Australia,” with the result that there is no one to take over the business.
However, he said there are many opportunities out there for buyers and “owning a pub is still a big attraction”.
The auctioneer added that owners now have the choice as to whether they want to open seven days a week or four days, which means ownership is “not as onerous”.
He added that bars such as Paddy’s offer great potential. "The feeling is there, the atmosphere is there, you just want to settle into a corner and Paddy’s has that," he said.
