Shots fired during burglary

A firearm was discharged during the course of a burglary incident in the Ballyhaunis area earlier this afternoon, Gardai have confirmed to the Roscommon Herald.

Gardaí say that they "are investigating a burglary at a premises in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo this afternoon, Thursday, July 11th. It is understood a firearm was discharged during the course of the incident."

Social media footage has emerged of a van with a gun shot through its windscreen with reports circulating that a firearm was discharged at the vehicle as  the van pulled away from the scene of an alleged burglary.  According to local reports the occupants of a van took off through fields.

According to Gardai no injuries have been reported at this time and investigations are ongoing.
