The fight for the last seat in South Roscommon has taken another turn.

Following the eight count, where Cllr John Keogh’s surplus of 39 was distributed, FF candidate James Murray was eliminated having gained 728 votes.

Fine Gael candidate and former councillor Domnick Connolly now stands on 743 votes. However, as a Fuerty candidate he could benefit significantly from Mr Murray’s distribution, who is from Athleague. Only time will tell as counting continues for the Athlone LEA. One seat remains to be filled.
