Tender process for Ballaghaderreen library works opens tomorrow

The existing library is located in Dillon House.
The tender process seeking to hire a contractor to refurbish Ballaghaderreen library in Dillon House opens tomorrow, (Wednesday, December 13th), local Sinn Féin TD Claire Kerrane has confirmed to the Roscommon Herald this evening.
In a recent update, the Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys outlined to the Roscommon/Galway Deputy that Roscommon County Council will issue the invitation to tender for works tomorrow, Wednesday.
The tender will stipulate that the successful contractor must be ready to commence works no later than March 2024, and the proposed works are scheduled as requiring 32 weeks to complete.
Deputy Kerrane has urged that the timeline for works and re-opening of Ballaghaderreen Library must be strictly met. She made her comments during a meeting last Friday with the Chief Executive and Director of Services in Roscommon County Council.
Speaking today, the Sinn Féin TD said:"It is absolutely essential now that planned works and the reopening date of Q4, 2024 be stuck to. The Library has been closed now for years and planned timelines for works have come and gone, the re-opening date has moved several times and it is now absolutely essential that the latest date of next year is stuck to.
"As I have said to the Minister, where possible, stages of work should be sped up given how long this has taken.
"I am assured by the Director of Services that the timeline will be maintained. I will continue to pursue this until the library reopens. I will also keep the public updated at every stage.
"The temporary library is due to open up near SuperValu early in 2024,” said Deputy Kerrane.
The temporary library in leased buildings in the town will operate until essential works on the existing library in Dillon House are completed. The council recently submitted Part 8 planning permission for the change of use of a former Tusla office in the town for the temporary facility.
