Thousands without power after local outage 

Thousands of people in the county are currently without power.

2,598 ESB customers in the west side of Athlone, including Baylough, and Monksland-Bellanamullia lost power shortly before 4.15 this afternoon. It is estimated that the power will be restored by 5.15.

“We apologise for the loss of supply,” the ESB said on the Powercheck website. “We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible.” 

The ESB was contacted for comment on the cause of the fault.
