Trains delayed following collision at Castlerea level crossing
Customers experienced delays after barrier was truck.
Irish Rail customers experienced delays this morning when an automated level crossing at Castlerea was damaged shortly before 8 a.m. when a road vehicle stuck the barriers.
There were delays to a number of services, including the 07:08hrs Athlone to Westport which was delayed by 90 minutes while the 07:15hrs Westport to Heuston was delayed by 50 minutes.
According to Irish Rail bus transfers were then arranged for the 07:08hrs above between Claremorris and Westport to help to recover timekeeping for later services, with the 09:45hrs Westport to Heuston operating with a bus transfer from Westport, and train starting from Claremorris.
Repairs are currently being undertaken, with staff dispatched to site to safely allow local operation for both rail and road traffic.
Irish Rail has apologised to customers for the disruption caused.
