Colm with family and friends celebrating his 96th birthday recently in Hesters, Castlerea.
Extensive tributes were paid to lifelong Rossie supporter Colm Hannelly who recently celebrated his 96th birthday.
Members of Castlerea St. Kevins Club were among many who extended their congratulations to Colm whose milestone birthday occurred on Monday, August 11th.
Born in Ballindrimly and getting his schooling in Tarmon, Colm worked for Telecom for many years in Castlebar before moving to Galway where he has been living for nearly 50 years.
He has never forgotten his roots and has been a great Roscommon and Castlerea supporter all his life. He has been a great historian over the years and in 1982 he published his book of Roscommon sporting records which covers all sports in the county from 1871 to 1982.
Colm updated it and kept the records from 1982 to the present year. He also published the Castlerea St. Kevins and Termon Club history from 1884 to 2010 which includes football, hurling, handball and camogie, along with schools football. And he has updated the records right up to 2024.
Recently, Colm with members of his family paid a visit to Hesters in Castlerea, where he met many old friends, including Eamon Campion, Dr. Greg and Claire Kelly, Brian Stenson and Danny Burke.
Colm was in great form and as sharp as ever in the company of family and friends.
