Two men went from ‘nought to nuclear’

Two men who were described as having gone from “nought to nuclear” faced charges of drug possession and having drugs for sale or supply at a recent sitting of Strokestown District Court.
Paul Quinn, Drinane, Strokestown and Kevin McDermot, 3 Church Street, Tulsk were each before the court for having cocaine in their possession on January 31st, 2025, at Farnbeg, Tulsk. They were also before the court for having cocaine for sale or supply on the same date, also at Farnbeg.
Solicitor Bríd Miller said this was “not the most sophisticated” crime and they had put their hands up saying “they had gone from nought to nuclear”. The court heard this was a first offence.
She further stated they were thinking of travelling abroad but Judge Faughnan asked her what age the two men were. She replied Mr Quinn was 31 and Mr McDermott was 32. The judge stated, “it is ridiculous” that they now wanted to travel saying, “they are not 16 or 17.”
He added: “They were dealing drugs.” The Judge imposed 200 hours community service in lieu of four months on each defendant.
Recognisances were fixed in the event of appeals.
