Two months added to jail term

A man who assaulted a prison officer had an extra two month jail term imposed to run concurrent to the sentence he is presently serving.
Stuart Whelan, 51 Fairlawn Road, Finglas, Dublin 11 was charged with assaulting a peace officer on February 2nd 2025 at Castlerea prison.
Judge James Faughnan presiding at Castlerea District Court heard the defending is serving a sentence which is due to finish in 2028.
Originally set for a trial the defendant told the court “none of it happened, there is no evidence of this.” However he later pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court was told the victim had back and eyebrow injuries. The judge ruled that the defendant be jailed for two months to run concurrent to his present term.
