Voter turnout increases across the constituency

The election turnout around Roscommon-Galway has increased from its slow start this morning. 

Voters in the constituency are deciding between Independent candidate Catherine Connolly and Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys. Fianna Fáil’s Jim Gavin is also on the ballot paper, although he withdrew from the race earlier this month.

According to the latest information as of 5pm, there has been a 23.7% turnout in Roscommon Town, with an over 30.55% turnout in South Roscommon.

Boyle has seen a 28% turnout, while there has been a 23.7 % turnout in Castlerea. In Ballaghaderreen, 16.2 % of voters have turned out already.

In Ballinasloe, there has also been an increase in turnout to 21.8% Voting is expected to continue to pick up this evening, and counting will begin in the Hyde tomorrow morning. Polls will remain open until 10pm this evening.

There are a total of 124 polling stations in the constituency, and its total electorate for the presidential election is 60,278.
