Watch: Roscommon teacher and his students make viral road safety awareness video

The road safety awareness video highlights the dangers of texting and driving
A secondary school teacher from Ballyforan, who teaches in Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar, has made a viral video with his students about road safety awareness for young men.
Kieran Kelly, who is Coláiste Mhuire's Road Safety Facilitator, created the poignant video with his sixth year students.
The video, which has amassed just under two-hundred thousand views on Instagram, tells the story of a young man who has just passed his driving test, which displays the text conversation between him and his friend, who he is picking up.
The video shows both friends ignoring rules of the road from a driver's and pedestrian's perspective as they are too focussed on their phones.
The climax of the video cuts to the young pedestrian being hit by his friend as the two are texting each other. The awareness video ends with two Gardaí knocking on the door of the young man who was hit in the accident.
Speaking on Virgin Media News, Mr. Kelly highlighted the statistics involving young men on the roads, "Seven out of ten road deaths from the statistics are male, there's 20 per cent of them are under the age of 25. Those statistics are frightening."
