Éire Óg and Clann na nGael book semi-final spots 

Éire Óg and Clann na nGael booked their spots in this year’s John Keane Kia LGFA Senior Championship, with victories over Shannon Gaels and St. Barry’s respectively this morning.

The strong cross field breeze in Ballaghaderreen was no issue for Éire Óg sharpshooter Rebecca Finan who kicked 0-10 (three frees) in her side‘s 1-15 to 0-9 victory.

A cagey first half meant the sides had only combined for ten points, Éire Óg leading by two, by the 27th minute.

Early substitute Allanah McGreal hit a quickfire 1-1, leaving the Gaels trailing by six at the break.

Shannon Gaels were limited to just two points from play in the second half as Ray Doory’s side saw out a nine point victory.

In this morning’s other game, Clann withstood a determined fightback to book their semi-final berth with a 4-12 to 3-11 victory over St. Barry’s.

St. Barry's led 0-5 to 0-3 after 13 minutes as Shannon McGuinness kicked 0-4, including a two-pointer.

Clann hit 1-4 without reply as a Ciara Quinn goal finished her side's scoring surge. But St. Barry's gained control of the Clann restart as they kicked the final five points of the half, Georgia Gerrity with four frees, to tie the game at half time 0-10 to 1-7.

Despite Caoimhe Lennon's score, St. Barry's hit the front when Cara Cox netted.

However, Clann hit back with 3-2 without reply in a 10 minute spell as Hope Glynn netted twice while Shauna Bannon found the net in between those efforts.

That helped Clann lead 3-11 to 1-10 but two further Cara Cox goals, which saw her complete her hat trick, made it a three point game but Sinead Farrell's 62nd minute point eventually saw Clann through.

The remaining quarter-final pairings of St. Brigid’s v St. Dominic’s, and Boyle v St. Ciaran’s are due to be played on Sunday, September 13th.

The winners of St. Dominic’s v St. Brigid’s will face Clann na nGael, and Éire Óg will play the winners of Boyle v St. Ciaran’s in this year’s senior semi-finals.
