County final pairings decided in LGFA championships
The Clann na nGael ladies' team who beat St. Dominic's in this afternoon's John Keane Kia senior championship semi-final.
The pairing for this year's John Keane Kia Roscommon LGFA senior final was decided this afternoon, as Clann na nGael and Boyle recorded semi-final victories over St. Dominic's and Éire Óg respectively.
It will be Clann's fifth final in six years, and a repeat matchup of the 2023 final. Boyle claimed their first senior crown on that occasion, while Clann have most recently won a county title in 2024.
A more efficient Clann secured their final slot as they finished strongly to defeat the home side at Knockroghery by 3-11 to 1-7.
St. Dominic's enjoyed the perfect start when they led 1-1 to no score as Niamh Watson netted from close range.
Clann eventually found their feet as Caoimhe Lennon tied the game at 1-2 a piece after 15 minutes. Dominic's missed their next five shots at goal as Shauna Bannon netted to give Clann a 2-3 to 1-3 half-time lead.
The home side missed a major chance to cut their arrears to a point in the 42nd minute as Aimee O'Connor's penalty flew over the top. When Jenny Shine netted four minutes later Clann had one foot in the final.
O'Connor hit back with a score, but Clann kicked the last five points, as substitute Róise Lennon slotted over three frees on her return to book Clann's spot in the final.
In this afternoon's other semi-final, Boyle were comfortable 2-11 to 0-2 winners, with their goals coming at important stages of the game in either half.
Despite playing with Enfield's breeze at their back in the opening half, Éire Óg were simply unable to make use of the elements due to Boyle's impressive defence.
Caoimhe Cregg reacted quickest to Katie Conroy's dropping free, finding the net for Boyle after six minutes.
The second half began slowly, but Conroy's 38th minute goal put any hopes of an unlikely comeback to bed as Boyle ran out 15-point winners.
Earlier this morning, Kilbride joined Pádraig Pearses in the Hannon's Hotel intermediate final, following their 3-6 to 1-10 victory over last year's Junior A champions Northern Harps.
Two goals from Aisling Hanly and a third from Sophie Hanley saw the Mid-Roscommon club over the line.
In the Castlerea Vehicle Recycling Junior A semi-finals, St. Mary's and Four Roads recorded victories.
St. Mary's beat St. Faithleach's on a score line of 1-13 to 0-10, while Four Roads beat Oran by 3-13 to 2-6.
