County Roscommon cyclist, Daire Feeley, almost produced the performance of his life to snatch a dramatic victory on the final day of the Rás Tailteann.
Lying in sixth place on General Classification just ten seconds behind the leader, Feeley was the leader on the road at one stage after getting into a significant breakaway on the 142km stage into Bective.
Feeley attacked out the front when the race reached Trim, and although he and Dean Harvey were caught by a group of chasers, the 2022 winner still had a minute on the main peloton.
But, with only four or five of the leading group willing to work, Feeley was reeled in over the closing few kilometres, allowing George Kimber to take overall glory.
Feeley finished fourth in the General Classification after a gutsy ride that just fell short of ultimate glory.
