County Roscommon and Connacht title winning club manager confirms he has stepped down

Castlerea St. Kevin’s manager, Dara Bruen has confirmed today (Monday) to the Roscommon Herald that he has stepped away from his position after four years in charge.

Since taking up the mantle in 2023, Bruen’s tenure has been a huge success. In his first season in charge he led Castlerea to an intermediate county title, following a dramatic victory over Éire Óg.

Further glory would come that year as Castlerea would land provincial honours, claiming victory over Galway champions.

Following a hiatus since being relegated in 2018, Bruen led Castlerea into their first senior campaign in his second season in charge.

Bruen and his management team helped Castlerea retain senior status in 2024 and 2025, and progressed further this year to the last eight.

Castlerea St. Kevin’s chairman, John Murphy, reflected positively on Bruen’s tenure: “It has been a wonderful four years. Dara and his management team brought us from intermediate success, to competing at senior championship level and we're very grateful for everything he and his team has done for the club.” 

While Bruen’s loss will be felt by the club, Mr Murphy felt the hard ground work laid down by the club’s former manager will persevere into the years to come.

“The commitment and the professionalism that he and his team brought to the panel and to the squad, that will endure. We have a lot of underage players coming through and the future is very bright and we're very thankful to Dara for that,” concluded Mr Murphy.

In a statement released by the club this evening, Castlerea St. Kevin's thanked Bruen and his management team for their efforts since 2023:

"After four hugely successful years at the helm of Castlerea St. Kevin’s Dara Bruen and his management team have stepped down from their roles.

"During those four years, they have given an enormous amount of time, commitment and dedication to Castlerea St. Kevin’s. Together they guided the team to county intermediate and Connacht titles in 2023.

"On behalf of everyone in Castlerea St. Kevin’s GAA club we would like to sincerely thank Dara and his backroom team for everything they have done for the club. Your hard work, commitment and achievements will always be remembered and appreciated. We wish Dara & the entire management team every success and happiness in the future," concluded the club's statement.
