Fáithleach’s late surge seals opening round victory

Six games were played across the senior, intermediate and Junior A football championships today (Sunday).

St. Fáithleach’s powered home in the last ten minutes to record a convincing 3-14 to 1-9 win over Castlerea St. Kevin’s in Group C of the Hodson Bay Senior Football Championship.

Last year’s semi-finalists were second best to a young Castlerea team for much of the game, trailing by 1-6 to 1-4 at half time, with goals coming from Adam McDermott and David Rooney.

Castlerea managed their lead in Ballyleague well until the 50th minute, but the home team finished the game by kicking 2-7, with goals coming from Jack Murray and Mikey Dunne.

Earlier on, Kilmore and St. Croan’s shared the spoils in a 0-12 a piece draw in Group C of the McNulty’s Intermediate Football Championship at Croghan.

Croan’s controlled much of the game, but a late shift in momentum saw Kilmore wrestle a two point lead late on.

Adrian Collins stepped up with a two-point effort at that death to ensure Croan’s earned a point.

There were four games that took place today in the King & Moffatt Junior A Championship.

In Group A, St. Aidan’s backed up their league form with a convincing 1-21 to 1-10 victory away to St. Dominic’s B.

In the other half of the group, Ballinameen recorded a convincing 3-12 to 1-11 victory at home to Boyle B.

Western Gaels B got their championship off to a good start with a win over Kilglass Gaels in Frenchpark.

Cormac Naughton’s goal on the stroke of half time helped Kilbride settle themselves into new surroundings in Group C of the Junior A championship. They went onto record a 1-18 to 1-12 victory at home to Roscommon Gaels B.
