Horse with strong Roscommon connections is retired

Flooring Porter, a horse with strong South Roscommon connections, has been retired.
The former Cheltenham Festival winner has been retired at age 11 due to injury.
Flooring Porter is owned by Ned Hogarty, father and son Alan and Tommy Sweeney from Pádraig Pearses country, and Kerril Creaven. The quartet bought Flooring Porter on Facebook for just €6,000, an investment that paid rich dividends.
The now 11-year-old won the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2021, when beating Sire Du Berlais, and followed up 12 months later, accounting for Thyme Hill, with Danny Mullins in the saddle on both those occasions.
Mullins also rode him to a fourth place finish in 2023 while Keith Donoghue was aboard when he finished second the following year.
Flooring Porter’s final victory came in 2024, winning the Kerry National at odds of 6-1.
