The Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football team will be hoping to secure promotion back to Division Two at the first time of asking when they face Offaly in Enfield this afternoon at 2 p.m..

Ollie Lennon’s side have enjoyed an excellent league campaign so far, only dropping points to last year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists, Clare, when the sides shared the spoils in Cusack Park, Ennis.

But victories over Down, Louth, Sligo and Wexford have left Roscommon on the cusp of promotion and a place in the league final. Just one victory against Offaly this afternoon or Antrim away in their final group game will suffice.

Given the shenanigans off the field before Christmas, the Roscommon players and management have shown tremendous unity, and that sense of togetherness has been evident in the way they’ve gone about their business to catapult themselves into such an advantageous position.

“The girls have been magnificent. Every challenge that has been put up to them, they’ve come up with the answers.

“They’ve earned this shot at promotion over the next two games. But they know themselves that they still have to go out and perform, and finish the job,” Ollie Lennon told the Roscommon Herald.

Offaly’s heavy defeat against Down last time out knocked the Faithful County off their stride. Surely, there will be a response from the visitors to that setback, but Roscommon have come too far to blow this opportunity.

On home turf, they’ll back themselves to get the job done.

HERALD VERDICT: Roscommon
