New Roscommon GAA Chairperson, Thomas Murray, has thanked club delegates and county board officers for placing their trust in him to lead the Association locally over the next five years.

In a post on social media, the new chairperson — who took over from Brian Carroll at annual Convention at the end of November — reflected on his 15 years on the Board as Oifigeach Cultúir & Teanga, Development Officer and most recently Roscommon GAA Vice-Chairperson where he “gained huge experience, met fantastic people and made some great friendships along the way.”

Mr Murray said he was looking forward to working with club delegates and county officers, and paid tribute to his club St. Dominic’s and his family for their “unwavering support”.

“Thank you to everyone for the lovely messages, calls, cards, e-mails, social media posts, etc. I will get back to you all eventually.

“My social media activity has always been minimal and that’s not likely to change. However, our Communications Committee, led by Fidelma Lennon, will keep you well-informed of all Roscommon GAA activities on and off the field.

Finally, best wishes to my predecessor, Brian Carroll, who takes on the role of Central Council Delegate for Roscommon. Knowing Brian for as long as I do, I’m certain Brian will do an excellent job representing us all at national level as he’s handed on the baton by Pat Compton,” he said.
