Nolan on song as Brigid’s book county final spot

Kate Nolan bagged 1-8 as St. Brigid's progressed through to the county final.
Kate Nolan’s 1-8 propelled St. Brigid’s to a second successive Dermot Hughes Car Sales Senior LGFA final.
St. Brigid’s were on top throughout as the home side accounted for 2023 champions Boyle with a blistering opening half setting the Kiltoom based side on their way. Niall Mackey’s side led 1-10 to 0-2 at half time and even though they didn’t hit the same heights in the final half, they were never in danger of being reeled in.
Even though Aoife Minnock was sin binned after seven minutes, St. Brigid’s crucially outscored their foes 0-3 to 0-0 during this stretch with Nolan bagging two and Aine O’Brien also on target.
St. Brigid’s were dominating both sets of kickouts while Claire Grehan produced five opening half turnovers as she excelled in the sweeper role. Aoibhinn Tonry saw a goal effort cleared off the line by St. Brigid’s Aoibhe Lennon but the Kiltoom based side were creating chances at a far higher rate.
Despite St. Brigid’s losing Abby Curran to a sin binning, Saoirse Wynne suffered the same fate a minute later. Nolan’s eight opening half points, seven frees, helped her side lead 0-9 to 0-1 before Sarah O’Rourke palmed to the net and O’Brien pointed to help her side lead 1-10 to 0-2 at half time.
After Curran and Wynne returned, Boyle’s Heather Kerins was booked but yet her side fought back with three Aisling Feely scores.
Yet, Kate Nolan’s quickfire 1-1 put the result beyond doubt despite Feely, who scored all her side’s 1-5, finding the net with a long range free.
St. Brigid’s will face either Clann na nGael or St. Dominic’s in the final with those sides meeting on Tuesday evening.
