Roscommon club brings goals tally to 31 after five championship games

Áine O'Brien, seen here in action against Boyle, scored another two goals for St. Brigid's against Clann na nGael earlier today.

St. Brigid’s continue to rack up the goals in the Roscommon LGFA Senior Championship as a fifth win in as many games gave them the bragging rights against Clann na nGael in Kiltoom.

Having bagged 11 goals against Boyle a week earlier, they hit another nine against their southern neighbours on their way to a 9-13 to 5-6 victory on Sunday morning.

It means that Brigid’s have hit an incredible 31 goals in their first five games, having hit six goals in their first two matches against Shannon Gaels and St. Dominic’s.

Leading by 4-8 to 1-3 at the break, Brigid’s continued to go for the jugular and added another five green flags in the second half.

The impressive Marian Nolan ended up with 2-7, while Áine O’Brien also added a couple.

The only sour note from a Brigid’s perspective was county star Kate Nolan being removed from the action with what looked like a serious knee injury.

Éire Óg chalked up their first victory of the campaign with a deserved 1-8 to 0-7 triumph against Shannon Gaels in Croghan.

With Sorcha Bruen and Michaela Dunne in fine form, the home side raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead. But led by Claire Flanagan and Rebecca Finan, Éire Óg worked their way back into the contest to be on level terms at the break.

The game’s crucial score arrived seven minutes from time when Flanagan’s effort for a point came back off the post and Rebecca Madden reacted quickest to find the net.

Reigning champions Boyle’s woes continued as they were defeated on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-11 by St. Dominic’s in Abbey Park.

Hannah Murray’s first-half goal procured a 1-7 to 0-4 lead for the visitors at the interval.

In the second half, the scoring prowess of Aimee O’Connor and Aoife Gavin continued with both players ending up with 0-8 and 0-6 respectively.
