A County Roscommon GAA club will be hoping that the appointment of a new manager can launch its bid for the club’s first senior championship title since 2004.

Roscommon Gaels has confirmed that Mark Dowd will replace Frankie Dolan as manager next season. Dowd will be joined on the management team by selectors John Nolan and David Kelly.

Dowd, who was part of the successful Roscommon minor football team management under Fergal O’Donnell in 2006, boasts an impressive CV.

Having been involved with Strokestown over the last couple of years, he was also part of Anthony Cunningham’s senior management team in Roscommon. He led the Roscommon U-21 team to Connacht championship glory in 2015, while he also managed Ballaghaderreen to the Mayo senior football championship crown in 2012.

Roscommon Gaels won the O’Rourke Cup this season but were soundly beaten by St. Brigid’s in the county semi-final as a wait for a first Fahey Cup in 19 years continued.
