One of Roscommon’s key players in winning this year’s provincial U-20 football championship has received a high-profile accolade.

Shane McGinley has been chosen as the EirGrid U-20 Player of the Province for Connacht. The selection was made by the Gaelic Writers Association.

The Strokestown forward has been in scintillating form during Roscommon’s unbeaten run, which culminated in a 3-13 to 0-17 victory against Galway in Castlebar on Saturday last.

McGinley picked up the official TG4 Player of the Match award after contributing 1-6 and providing assists for Roscommon’s other two goals.

Roscommon meet Tyrone in the All-Ireland semi-final on Saturday, a game that’s scheduled for Kingspan Breffni at 5 p.m..
