A County Roscommon senior footballer made history on Sunday by becoming the county’s all-time top scorer following his Player of the Match performance against Monaghan at King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park.

Diarmuid Murtagh hit 0-12 during the Rossies’ five-point victory, bringing his total to 19-333 in a Roscommon jersey.

According to Roscommon GAA Chairperson, Brian Carroll, the St. Faithleach’s player is now the all-time top scorer for the county senior football team, overtaking the late Dermot Earley.

Diarmuid’s brother, Ciaráin, is in third place in the county’s all-time scorers’ list.

In Roscommon’s three games so far, Murtagh has hit 0-25 points and has been pivotal to Davy Burke’s men powering their way to the top of the Division Two League table.

He has also made the GAA.ie Football Team of the Week for the second time this season following his stellar display against Monaghan.
