A County Roscommon footballer has been selected as the winner of the TG4 Goal of the Year.
Shane McGinley’s sensational strike against Tyrone in last year’s All-Ireland U-20 football semi-final beat off 14 other contenders to take the award.
The popular Irish language television station gave viewers got the chance to vote for their favourite goal, and the Strokestown’s player’s early three-pointer against the Red Hand County at a sun-splashed Kingspan Breffni last May came out on top, beating Andrew Quinn (Mayo) and Matthew Costello (Meath) who completed the top three.
McGinley is part of Davy Burke’s Roscommon senior football panel for the upcoming Division Two Football League campaign, which commences against Down at King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park on Sunday, January 26th.
