Roscommon players gearing up for first Masters test against Australia
Dermot Foley, Conor Beirne, Sharon Ryan Tarney, Declan Woods and Anthony Carroll at training in Kiltoom ahead of the upcoming Masters' International Rules Series.
It will be a proud moment for five County Roscommon representatives this weekend when they’re part of the Ireland Men’s and Ladies’ Masters football teams against their Australian counterparts in Charlestown and Curry on Saturday next.
Sharon Ryan Tarmey from St. Croan’s is part of the ladies’ masters panel, while Conor Beirne (Elphin) and Dermot Foley (Kilmore) are on the over-40s men’s squad that will tackle Australia in their first test at the home of Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
Declan Woods (Éire Óg) is part of the over-50s men’s squad, while Anthony Carroll (Kilmore) is part of the management team that will play Australia in Curry at 12 p.m..
Sharon, Conor, Dermot, Declan and Anthony are very grateful to Damien Garvey for his sponsorship in the run-up to the historic International Rules Series.
The Ireland squads have been using St. Brigid’s GAA Club in South Roscommon as a training base in preparation for the matches.
Guest of honour on Saturday next is Mayo LGFA and AFLW legend, Cora Staunton.
The second series of test matches take place in Denn, County Cavan, on Saturday, March 16th.
